Marrakech Hot Air Balloon Weather Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy

Hot air balloons have no forward mechanical propulsion; they drift in the exact direction and speed of the ambient wind. Because of this, passenger safety requires calm, predictable air currents.

Flights are canceled or postponed under four specific meteorological circumstances: Surface wind speeds exceeding 10 knots (approx. 18 km/h) during inflation or landing; Upper-level wind shear or gusting turbulence exceeding 15 knots; Rain or dense cloud ceilings under 300 meters above ground level; or Approaching convective storm cells or poor horizontal visibility (under 5 km).

While clear blue skies may look pleasant to the untrained eye from a hotel balcony, high-altitude winds or surface gusts can make launching unsafe. The decision to fly rests entirely with our licensed flight captains.

Stage 1 (Evening Prior at 18:00): Our flight dispatch team analyzes terminal aerodrome forecasts (TAF), surface pressure isobar charts, and satellite wind models. If severe adverse weather (e.g., heavy rain or gale winds) is certain, we notify you by email and WhatsApp the evening prior so you do not have to wake early.

Stage 2 (Dawn Assessment on Field): Often, morning wind depends on overnight radiational cooling. In marginal conditions, vehicles proceed to the launch field where the pilot releases a small helium sounding balloon (pibal) to measure real-time upper-air currents. If conditions are deemed unfavorable at the field, the flight is immediately stood down for safety.

Option A — Priority Reschedule to Next Morning: We automatically hold backup basket allocation on subsequent mornings for weather-delayed guests. If your flight is canceled, we simply transfer your reservation to the following day with zero rebooking fees.

Option B — Alternative Date During Your Stay: If you have pre-booked full-day tours or excursions on the following day, you may move your balloon flight to any other remaining morning of your Moroccan itinerary.

If adverse weather prevents your flight and you are unable to reschedule because you are leaving Marrakech, you are entitled to an immediate 100% refund.

Our finance team processes the refund directly back to your original payment method (credit card, debit card, or wire transfer) with zero cancellation fees, administrative deductions, or restocking penalties.
