What to Wear on a Hot Air Balloon Flight in Marrakech: Practical Clothing Advice

Because pickup takes place between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM, the desert air outside Marrakech is brisk. In winter (November to February), temperatures on the launch field can dip to 7°C–10°C (45°F–50°F), while spring and autumn hover around 12°C–16°C.

Wear a breathable base layer topped by a fleece, light jacket, or cardigan. Once in the air, the powerful propane burners directly overhead radiate comforting warmth, and the rising sun quickly warms the basket. By the time breakfast is served at 8:30 AM, you will gladly shed your outer layer.

The balloon launch and landing fields are natural desert earth with small stones, dry scrub, and uneven ground. Additionally, entering and exiting the wicker basket requires stepping onto foot rungs.

Please wear sturdy trainers, sneakers, or flat walking shoes. High heels, flip-flops, open-toe sandals, and loose slip-ons are strictly discouraged for your comfort and safety.

The burners emit intermittent radiant heat above your head. A baseball cap, flat cap, or light beanie provides great comfort against this warmth while shielding your eyes from the blazing sunrise.

Sunglasses are essential once the balloon reaches flight altitude and the Moroccan sun crests the Atlas Mountains.

You will want to capture the 360-degree vistas of the desert, palm groves, and High Atlas peaks. Smartphones and DSLRs are welcome, but must be attached via wrist straps or neck lanyards.

Space inside the balloon basket is reserved for passenger comfort. Please leave bulky backpacks or large rolling luggage in our secure transport vehicle during the flight.
